The Cardinals, faced with a humiliating second wild card slot in the wild card dog-and-pony show of the National League play-in game, came out with their best effort against the Atlanta Braves. Unfortunately for Braves fans everywhere, the Braves did not. The Braves resembled the 2006 Detroit Tigers, tossing the ball all over the field (three errors) and definitely looking like a team unworthy of postseason play.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals capitalized in brutal fashion, forcing the Braves to choke on their mistakes as they snatched a victory in baseball’s first sudden-death wild card game. With an elevating 6-3 victory, the Cardinals go on to face the Washington Nationals in the big-boy NLDS.

We won, but the ridiculous call in the eighth inning (to be covered in another article) helped the Cardinals do it. The Cardinals managed a win, and entered into the real postseason.
