Why Yadier Molina should be the starting catcher in the All Star Game and other obvious news

This article is so unnecessary I really don’t know why I am writing it other than to persuade those who still have yet to not vote in the All Star game.  As of today’s NL ballot update for the upcoming July 10th All Star game, Yadier Molina is currently trailing Giants catcher Buster Posey by over 150,000 votes. THIS IS MADNESS PEOPLE!  For those of you who still have yet to vote Molina here is a few obvious reasons why Molina should be the starting catcher for the National League in the All Star game.

Statistics:

For you stat heads out there Molina should be the obvious choice.  Below is a comparison of Posey and Molina’s offensive stats to date, if you look closely Molina is better than Posey at all but one stat and that is walks.

Stat Molina Posey
AVG 0.326 0.295
HR 9 8
RBI 37 35
OBP 0.381 0.356
SLG 0.516 0.465
SB 6 1
BB 18 21
SO 24 43

Defense:

Not only is Molina a four time gold glove award winner and the first ever recipient of the Platinum Glove, but his defense is much more than awards and accolades. He is looked to, to lead and guide the Cardinals pitching staff on the field and off, which makes him the most valuable player on the Cardinals which is why he is worth every penny of his big time extension that he is getting after this season. Below is a comparison of Molina and Posey’s defensive stats to date.  Here is where you can really see Molina’s value behind the plate, better or tied with Posey in each category.

Stat Molina Posey
FLD % 0.995 0.985
Errors 2 6
CS % 37% 24%
PO 2 2
UZR 0.3 -0.03

Leadership:

Like I mentioned above, Molina is the most valuable member of his club. He is a leader both behind the plate and at the batters box. He has come through with clutch hits and plays that give the Cardinals momentum, his name is chanted and screamed by fans louder than any other Cardinal and he is often spoken highly of by all who has pitched for the Cardinals as well as the coaching staff.

Conclusion:

Not only is Molina having a better defensive season, he is crushing the ball and having a much better offensive season than Posey. He is the heart and soul of the Cardinals and if anyone deserves to be an All Star it should be Molina. He is not only a fan favorite catcher but it is proven he is the best catcher in all of baseball. But yet the stupidity of baseball fans have Molina behind Buster Posey a player that should be third or fourth among NL catchers with guys like Brian McCann and Carlos Ruiz more deserving than him. This is a shame not only for Cardinal Nation but for all of baseball.  There is still some good news Cardinal Nation, not only is there more time to vote but the Cardinals also have Rafael Furcal and Carlos Beltran currently winning at their position. So if you have not voted get online and vote and vote and vote!
