Why I hate Tim McCarver part two

The most annoying broadcasting duo in history?

Earlier in the World Series I wrote an article, on my hate of FOX sportscaster, and former St. Louis Cardinals catcher Tim McCarver. This feeling will last with me and the majority of Cardinal Nation for a long time to come but it seems to me in the World Series he is extremley bad at what he does. Not only is he awful at sportscasting in general is constant hate for the Cardinals is growing more and more obvious. In tonight’s game alone he seems to have tremendous excitement when a Rangers player does anything good, but if the Cardinals do something good he just makes it seem like it is lucky and will not effect the outcome of the game.  When the Cardinals do something wrong, he has the same excitement that he does when the Rangers excel, yet if the Rangers make a mistake or bad play he seems like it was just an unlucky play that never should have happened.

Now why is it that I could have so much hatred for a “famous”(INFAMOUS) broadcaster who played for the Cardinals for over ten years and was a part of three World Champion Cardinal teams (’61,’64′, ’67)? Well, it is because he acts like he played for the Cubs, Reds, Brewers, and any other Cardinal rival instead of the Cardinals themselves. Now I don’t know what the Cardinals organization did to him but considering he didn’t play under TLR so he wasn’t traded out of spite,  and the fact that the Cardinals are known as one of the most respectful teams to previous players and are known as one of the best franchises and has some of the best fans in all of baseball, I highly doubt that they wronged him in any way. So why does he hate the Cardinals so much?  Why? Well I don’t care, he will never be considered a Cardinal great, or for that matter a former Cardinal to me. Ryan Theriot will rank higher than him on my list, hell even Adam Kennedy who I hate, more than anyone else will be ranked higher than McCarver. It is a shame to me that we must feel this way about a player that could be considered a Cardinal great, but if you like him you must be a hippie from the sixties lost in the 21st century.

McCarver is simply awful. I never want to hear his voice again, but we will have too because for some reason Fox still has him under contract, and he covers the FN World Series. Which brings me to my next point, why does he have to criticize the Cardinals on NATIONAL TELEVISION??? The world may never know. I hate the man for being such a stupid, idiotic, and a huge asshole, who hates the team that he played so well for and won THREE World Series with.

I was upset when the guy was picked off third with one out. Normally if a guy blunders like that McCarver would have crucified the guy but this time he said nothing. I felt his silence was ordered by Fox protecting the top sponsor and owner of the cards.

I am a BIG FAN of YOUR BLOG.  This one however, seems extreme and imo way overdone. Though the picture caption is hard to disagree with; It is Brilliant really, you are targeting the wrong half of that sorry duo.  I can see why you might object to his announcing style, but – if you don’t think Tim is a great Cardinal perhaps you should revisit the David Halberstam book, October 1964, and check out some of Tim’s baseball cards.  I think it would be an eye opener.

I’d be more interested to know what you think of Joe Buck.
In my opinion he is a far more offensive, turncoat jerk.  HIs Dad is on the outfield wall at Busch III for Christ’s sake. He acts as if he never announced Cardinals games locally, like he grew up in New York City, Graduated cum laude’ from Harvard and can hardly bear to dirty his larynx by broadcasting a Cardinals World Series Game.  He’s also just plain generally LAME!!!  His enthusiasm waxes and wanes depending on who he thinks is going to win any given game, in every sport he works.  He is just SO BAD!!!

Perhaps you have a point regarding McCarver’s criticism of the Cards, but I think he is trying to call it like he sees it.  He makes mistakes like we all do, that can be irritating, but is not an offense deserving of such vitriol.  Worse, in a glaring way, is your sentence about Riot and Kennedy. THAT is just patently absurd;  c’mon dude,  REALLY?    I expect hard criticism, but in this case you are well off target.

McCarver is, a pretty smart guy.  His book, Baseball for Brain Surgeons, is a unique contribution to the genre; a well written, insightful, even brilliant, perspective on watching the game in the form of the Television Broadcast.

Moreover, TIM McCARVER IS A GREAT CARDINAL BY ANY MEASURE.  McCarver caught Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, and a lot of very good Cardinal pitchers for a long time.  Being the catcher for just those two, qualifies him as great, in and of itself.  He had a key game winning home run in contributing to the 1964 WS Championship.  He hit very well during his career, a .271 lifetime average, with plus power, over 21 major league seasons. That is long time to be a good player, especially behind the dish.

Concerning our current team, you have had some really valid criticisms of LaGenius throughout the season. But I have to admit that maybe he does know a little more about baseball than me, even as maddening as some of his moves can be.

I hope you will consider this in the spirit in which it was written. Please Keep up the great work!  I read almost every day and I look forward to your viewpoint.  You are one of the few Card writers that generally isn’t afraid to pull any punches. That makes my life richer and watching our team a lot more fun.  Thanks for a great year and………

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WORLD SERIES CHAMPION ST. LOUIS CARDINALS!
