What Kind Of Cardinal Fan Are You? Optimistic Or Pessimistic?

If you spend any amount of time reading the message boards and comments sections of various Cardinal-related websites, you hear a lot of grumbling. Constant complaints. Ever-present worries and concerns. Some of these folks wouldn’t be happy with the team if they won a World Championship every year and the beer was ice cold and completely free.

Sure, it’s easy to panic from time to time. When you see the Cardinals allow the greatest ballplayer in a generation walk away, your heart skips a couple of breathless beats. You start breaking into a cold sweat when you see John Mozeliak spend $32 million dollars on three players whose average age is ∞ and they average 3.5 months on the disabled list annually. We can’t help it sometimes – we’re human baseball fans, after all.

Still, much depends on our perspective. We can look at developments with a sense of optimism, or we can officially announce that the sky is falling every time Chris Carpenter has a kink in his neck. Here’s a little look at the difference between the perspectives of Cardinal Nation:

I loved them winning the series last year and think they can again. My fav player wainwright is back so I can ease up a bit on my Jon jay man crush(-: It hurts me as much as the next cards fan when we lose, but like you I’ve read to much doom and gloom about our cards before the year even starts. What I don’t read hardly ever is that win or lose this year without Albert, at some time the cards would be Albertless. But what’s important is that the cards will always have father and son duels who communicate across state lines about how their cards are doing and that for the majority of a 365 day year those 162 games keep a bond between fathers and sons that no player could ever break. We won’t win ever year on the field, but us fans can win every year with our dads and kids thanks to the Cardinals organization (-:

Isn’t it amazing that so many people – Cards fans or otherwise – are predicting bad things for this team? I’m shocked at how few are picking the Cards to win the division given our team and the composition of the division (or the league, for that matter).
