Player Spotlight: Carlos Martinez
Normally, the spotlight shines on players in the Majors but how exciting is it to have big talent in the minor leagues, and that is exactly what Carlos Martinez is; big talent. Tonight, the Quad Cities River Bandits are playing at Busch Stadium and Martinez is scheduled to be the starting pitcher. Martinez the 19 year old pitcher from the Dominican Republic was just recently promoted to the Cardinals class A affiliate, Quad Cities.
Martinez who we have only seen a few glimpses of this year, signed a 1.5 million dollar deal last year to join the Cardinals. Martinez is replacing Jordan Swagerty in the rotation because Swagerty was promoted to Palm Beach. So far Martinez has started 3 games for the River Bandits and is an even 1-1, with a mediocre 4.63 ERA, and 17 K’s in only 11.2 innings. This kid has so much promise, I hope we can develop him into a future star. I would like to see a rotation of Wainwright, Garcia, Shelby Miller, and Carlos Martinez for years to come.
