GAME 84- Hot mess

On a scorching night starting in at about 106 degrees, the Cardinals faced the new looking Miami Marlins at home. Before the game we learned that Yadier Molina was placed on the bereavement list due to a death in the Molina family. Unfortunately due to this Molina will miss the All Star game, however he was replaced on the NL roster with the red hot Matt Holliday. This is not going to be a long recap, but here is a brief synopsis of the game. The Cardinals battled behind a pretty good Jake Westbrook where a series of defensive errors cost the  Cardinals the game as they lost 3-2.

The Cardinals scored their two runs from Freese with RBI 51 on the season and from Rafael Furcal who had a pretty hot night going 2-5 but sadly exited the game with a shin injury. Hopefully Furcal will be able to bounce back and won’t miss the All Star game. Westbrook battled for 6.2 innings allowing 2 runs only one earned, at the expense of a series of Freese errors.  Rookie Maikel Cleto came in and let up the final blow as Logan Morrison went deep and gave the Marlins enough of a lead.

Player of the Game: Rafael Furcal with his 2-5 night and an RBI, hopefully he won’t be injured long!

Conclusion:

The Cardinals keep losing these one run games, it just can’t happen. This game was lost by some bad plays and mistakes, it happens in baseball. The Cardinals just need to move on and try to win the series before the Al l Star break begins on Monday.
