Jake Westbrook was smacked around hard by the surging Pirates, surrendering nine hits and four runs in six innings. But the Cardinals’ offense didn’t surrender to Pittsburgh, chipping away with home runs from National League All Star BACK UP catcher Yadier Molina and Allen Craig. Then the bullpen finally had a terrific outing, holding a dangerous Pirates lineup for three scoreless innings. The Cardinals (41-38) escaped with a 5-4 win, salvaging the final game of a disastrous three game series.
