GAME 52: Imperfect Game
Johan Santana twirled the first no-hitter in Mets history against a Cardinals’ lineup that couldn’t resist swinging at balls in the dirt all night. Santana gave the Cardinals five walks on a night when it looked like he had control issues, but the offense couldn’t solve him for a hit or a run. The Cardinals dropped the game 8-0.
Meanwhile, Adam Wainwright regressed a little bit with seven earned runs in 6.1 innings. Sam Freeman made his major league debut in relief of Waino, and he looked ungood. Freeman gave up two walks and a hit for one earned run in two-thirds of an inning. By then, however, the game was over.
So the Cardinals (27-25) are just two games over .500 and everything is failing at once. Anybody have any suggestions?
